The Great British Bake Off (Channel 4)

Even with the departure of stalwarts like the legendary Queen of Baking, Mary Berry, this show reigns as one of the funniest and most educational baking programmes on telly today. Every episode sees amateur bakers tasked with challenges, ranging from the simple to the complex, saying goodbye to the losing dish and baker at the end. What makes it so great is that you learn from the baker’s mistakes and have a good laugh while you’re at it.

Sugar Rush (Netflix)

This is a fascinating competition where professional bakers go toe-to-toe on extreme cake baking challenges. Teams usually consist of 2 bakers and they’re given a few hours to design, build and decorate huge cake creations based on set themes.

Nailed It (Netflix)

Nailed It was created as a result of the popularity of memes based on the way a cake was supposed to look and how it actually came out. It is hilarious. Amateur bakers are challenged to recreate super-stylised, professional themed cakes. The show proves that professional bakers have real skill that cannot be easily replicated by home-bakers under time pressure, with laugh-out-loud results.

The Curious Creations of Christine McConnell (Netflix)

If you’re into trying out weird and whacky cake recipes or themes, this lady is one to watch. Christine McConnell specialises in making baked goods with an edge. From the creepy, magical or macabre, she will inspire you to push the boundaries of baking with her crazy ideas.
